It is defined by a score of 80 points or above on a 100-point scale, as assessed by certified Q-Graders. This designation signifies superior quality, ethical sourcing, and complete traceability, highlighting unique flavors that result from specific, meticulously managed farming, processing, and roasting techniques. Specialty-grade coffee is almost always harvested by hand — picking only ripe red cherries across multiple passes through the same trees — a key quality and cost differentiator versus commodity coffee.

Five Corners Coffee & Bakery is a specialty coffee café and scratch-made bakery in San Diego's Bankers Hill neighborhood — built on a simple idea: that a thoughtfully sourced cup and a scratch-made pastry can transform your morning routine into a life-affirming daily ritual.

Our name comes from our signature blend, crafted exclusively for Five Corners and sourced from five distinct coffee-growing regions across Indonesia, Central America, and South America. Each coffee varietal has been selected for the distinct character and flavor profiles it contributes to the cup.

The coffee is hand-roasted in small batches by Kings Road Coffee, the celebrated Los Angeles roaster founded in 1990 by Lawrence Casperson. The bold and complex blend has notes of mocha, caramel and almonds. Its medium dark roast has a rich full body and is well balanced with a distinctively clean, smooth finish.

Every cup of coffee is made to order using a 60-second extraction — a technique passed down from Lawrence himself — utilized to draw out the full body and layered flavor profile the blend was built for. Alongside the coffee, you'll find classic espresso drinks, matcha, loose-leaf teas, smoothies, and specialty lattes that change with the season.

Leading the bakery program is pastry chef Sarah Salcedo, founder of Tu Madres Bakery—a San Diego-based custom cake studio known for refined buttercream work and thoughtfully crafted desserts.

The bakery menu features a balanced mix of sweet and savory offerings, including empanadas, laminated pastries, espresso-inspired baked goods, and small-format desserts—each developed with intention and crafted to either pair seamlessly with the coffee or stand confidently on its own.
